Steve Jobs

Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.

Founding

In the beginning, Mind Studios was a project by three people: Anton Baryshevskyi, Dmytro Dobrytskyi, and Ivan Dyshuk. They’ve come a long way in IT and by 2013, all three founders had over 4 years of mobile and web development experience and were in top management positions in IT outsourcing.

They took the risk and started their own company to realize their vision of how they wanted to work.

It’s not much of a secret that there are companies out there that cut ties with their outsourced products after launching them. After all, their job is done. Our founders wanted to do it differently. They wanted to build products that thrive. That’s why Mind Studios is built upon the values of responsibility, professionalism, and care about the product.

Early Days

Like most software development startups, our first projects were from job boards. Three people became fifteen and we added to our expertise and expanded our services. In what felt like no time at all, we had separate iOS, Android, and Web departments.

At the same time, we knew that technical impeccability isn’t enough for market success. Products also need to be visually appealing and have a functional design. That’s how we’ve grown to include a UI/UX design department: to make sure we cover all sides.

Believe it or not, but we’ve got clients that have stuck with us since those early days. If that’s not proof that we’re going the right way, what is?

Opening a US-based Headquarters

We are constantly inspired by innovation and technology so visiting Silicon Valley was one of our goals.

And in 2015, we’ve achieved this goal when we went to open our new headquarters in the US.

During that trip, we’ve gotten to see quite a bit of the States, met some of our clients as well as many other promising startup owners, formed new connections.

We’ve also learned a lot about the roadblocks mobile and web products encounter at the earliest stages of their lives and how to overcome them. We’ve adjusted our processes to pay more attention to customer development and marketing strategy. This turned out to be one of the best decisions for successful launches.

Sri Lanka Retreat

However beloved a job, burnout starts haunting everyone who works hard for a long time. It happened to us as well. Everyone’s juices were squeezed out and our growth slowed. The team needed fuel replenishment.

We couldn’t all go vacationing, though, with projects in development. So we did the next best thing and moved the whole team to Sri Lanka for a month.

Combining work with adventuring in new environments affected us in the best way possible.

Besides getting closer as a team through sharing fun experiences — surfing, beaches, and hiking Adam’s Peak — we’ve also got the drive to make significant changes to our company.

We’ve rebranded, enhanced our positioning, and realized a small dream of ours — created a department that will launch our own products in addition to outsourcing.

Shanghai Nightlife and New Expertise

Launching a product you’ve been working on for over a year is unbelievably inspiring. And ours had a pretty unique theme — nightlife in Shanghai, one of the most innovative cities in the world. So when our client asked us to help them with launching we didn’t think twice.

We took part in sales meetings and listened carefully. And we’ve seen for ourselves how important it is to study your target audience. How different our understanding of what a good interface is from what Asian communities think it is.

We came as far as changing things in the product to make it more user-friendly for its particular target demographic.

This was the beginning of our journey to sharpen our skills in audience research and make it a separate service for startups.

Of course, there were some nightclubs mixed in 😉

Growing Further

Years 2018 and 2019 signified expansion for our teams. We hired new professionals for each department. With quality as our priority, to grow further, we came to realize we needed to standardize our processes.

To build and market better products, ones that alleviate users pains’ and solve problems, we’ve added new stages to our processes: Discovery and Idea Evaluation.

Our clients grew with us. At some point, we started receiving offers to become shareholders in some of our projects. Right now, Mind Studios not only builds mobile and web products but also invests in them.

Cyberhero

Another milestone during these years belongs to our game development department: in 2018, they took part in a Pocket Gamer Connects 2018 gaming conference in Helsinki with our first gaming product.

Our team has presented CyberHero at The Very Big Indie Pitch, received valuable insights from the judges and industry opinion leaders. They then took that feedback and spun it into a new version of the game, which later was signed with a popular game publisher Azur Games.

COVID-19

The year 2020 will make history for sure, as it has been hard for a major part of our planet’s population, on personal and business levels. It has been hard for us too.

It probably comes as no surprise that some of our clients have put their products’ development on-hold. It happened to millions of businesses all over the world. Even some corporations had to cut their staff or suffer losses in revenue.

We’ve chosen to maximally keep our staff. With some adjustments and sacrifices, we managed to come out almost unscathed, our team intact and, what’s more important, closer than ever as people.

2020
present

The COVID-19 year has brought a lot of negatives but it wasn’t completely awful. It pushed us to evolve, to look for new ways to build better products and help our clients.

After all, development is just the beginning of what is a riveting process — creating a new successful product.

The first version is rarely perfect. It needs constant evolution, expansion, and promotion.

Today, in addition to design and development, we also offer product management and marketing services. This is another step closer to our dream:

We want to create products and follow them from just ideas to stable working businesses.
